- Encoded signals i.e. the bouquet of channels available on
Satellite TV are beamed up to the PanAmSat-4 satellite, situated in
a fixed position over the equator, by service providers like
multichoice.
- The satellite then acts as a "mirror" in the
transmission process and the encoded signals are beamed back to
South Africa covering an area that we call the footprint.
- A special "antenna" in the form of a 90cm satellite
dish (which includes an LNB - Low Noise Block) is required for
reception.
- The next thing you need is a decoder.
|
- Electronic programme guides will not only show you what's on but
also at what time - right on your screen.
- In this way it gives you the most up-to-date information and
helps you select your daily viewing.
- When buying your equipment you will also need to purchase a
Smartcard from Multichoice.
- These are available at any Panasat dealer. This has to be slotted
into your decoder to enable your Panasat decoder to decode the
scrambled channels.
